There’s a pretty austere occasion coming up. June 24th is Cat World Domination Day! Is Fluffy plotting to take over the world? What would happen if she did? A Seminole, FL veterinarian offers some ‘petucated’ guesses below.
There actually is some evidence that Fluffy has been meowpulating us all along. Exhibit A, of course, would be the Sphynx. Kitties somehow managed to convince the ancient Egyptians to treat them as sacred deities! They hatched similar plots in other places, such as Siam, where the royal family doted on the felines we now know as Siamese.
How have our furry friends managed to wrap us around their little paws? Well, aside from the fact that they’re almost suspiciously cute, cats have a very charming meow. Fluffy actually sounds quite a bit like a human baby when she cries. Coincidence? We think not. That plaintive cry is a surefire way to tug at our heartstrings, and offer not only food and shelter, but also soft beds, litterboxes, lap space, cat furniture, toys, treats, and, of course, catnip.
Has your innocent little pet been plotting this whole time? What if, instead of peacefully napping, Fluffy was actually thinking hard about her plans? When your furball pounces on a catnip mouse, is she actually training? We may never know!
What would happen if cats did take over the world? To be honest, probably not much. Fluffy may demand that every room contain comfy pet beds, cat towers, boxes, and sunbeams, and you may no longer be allowed to get up if your furry boss is sleeping on your lap. We’d likely see catios, pet enclosures, and kitty gardens in every lawn and park. You’d of course also be expected to provide tuna, catnip, and ear scritches daily. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it? Fido, however, may not fare so well. Man’s Best Friend may find his bed commandeered. He may even get locked out of the house!
Speaking of dogs, what if they were trying to take over? Just like Fluffy, Fido would probably request comfy beds, toys, treats, and belly rubs on demand! We suspect bacon, car rides, and trips to the park would also be required.
